Terra 116 Power Plates: thru-hull wiring
The Terra 116 has three Power Plates built in from the factory — one at the bow, one in the cockpit, and one at the stern. They're dedicated drill-through points for running wiring through the hull: motor power, fish-finder cable, Power-Pole runs, and auxiliary 12V.
How Power Plates work
Drilling directly into a kayak hull creates a leak point you have to seal carefully and re-seal periodically. Power Plates exist so you never have to do that. When you're ready to rig, you drill through the plate — not the hull — and install a thru-hull wiring kit into the plate.
Watertight wiring is a two-part system:
- Power Plate — the factory drill-through point (bow, cockpit, or stern)
- Thru-hull wiring kit — installs into the plate and seals the cable run
What owners run through them
- Motor power leads (10 AWG or 8 AWG positive and negative runs from a battery in the cockpit to a bow or stern trolling motor)
- Fish-finder cable (transducer cable, NMEA 2000 backbone, network runs)
- Power-Pole power and control cable (if you're rigging a Power-Pole Micro Anchor on the stern)
- Auxiliary 12V runs for lights, USB chargers, etc.
Which plate for what
- Bow plate — bow trolling motor power, fish-finder cable to a forward-mounted head unit
- Cockpit plate — battery-side runs and accessory wiring from the cockpit
- Stern plate — stern trolling motor power, Power-Pole runs, stern light wiring
Use as many as your rig needs — bow motor wiring through the bow plate and Power-Pole wiring through the stern plate is a common setup.
