Quad Rails: sizing, fitting and accessories
Quad Rails come in four lengths — 12", 26", 32", and 44" — and the bases at each end add 1" per end (2" total) to whatever mounting span you actually get. So a 26" rail gives a 28" mounting span, a 32" rail gives 34", and the 44" gives 46". Below: which length fits your boat, how the sliding system locks down, and which accessory brands work.
Quad Rails are Cajo's modular accessory rail system — they turn the gear track into a flexible mounting surface that scales from a single rod-holder mount to a full captain's bridge, and accept gear from most major accessory brands.
The four lengths

The base math — why "install width" isn't "rail length"
Usable mounting width = rail length + 2" (1" per base). The bases can clamp anywhere along the rail, but at their outermost position — pushed right to the rail ends — each one extends about 1" past the end. That's where the 2"-total number comes from, and it's consistent across every length: 12" → ~14", 26" → 28", 32" → 34", 44" → 46".
Worked example — a 26" rail in a 28" span: if your existing mounting points are 26" apart outside-to-outside, a 26" rail with the bases pushed to the ends fits with about 2" of margin under the true 28" max — a comfortable fit. The trade-off: bases sitting at the very ends means no spare rail past them, so your accessory mounts have to live in the middle of the rail. If you want room to slide accessories further out toward the gunwales later, running a 32" rail at that same 26" install width leaves 3" of extra rail past each base instead.
Bases aren't locked to the rail ends — they slide inward too, all the way down to sitting just a few inches apart. So a 32" rail also works for a 30" gunwale span with the bases set slightly inward, and a 44" rail can even be squeezed down to a 30" span by sliding the bases in about 8" per side. Use this table to go from a measured install width to a rail length:

To find your number: measure gear-track-to-gear-track on the boat with the rail centered, then subtract 2" from your target span to land on the right length.
(A note on an older Cajo blog post that quoted "a 2" extension" — that matches the current spec exactly: 2" total, 1" on each end, measured at the bases' outermost position. Use 2" total in your planning math.)
The 44" bend — by design, not damage
The 44" Quad Rails ship with a subtle, deliberate bend — about a quarter inch of arc across the full 44" length — so they follow the crown of the hull instead of bridging it. Both the port and starboard 44" rails have the same bend.
Most kayak decks (and inflatables under pressure) crown up slightly from gunwale to centerline. A perfectly straight 44" rail would touch down at its two end mounting points but lift slightly in the middle, so anything clamped to that middle section would feel less solid. The pre-formed bend lets the rail sit flush along its whole length instead.
It is not: shipping damage, a manufacturing defect, a quality issue, or something you need to bend back straight before installing. If your 44" rail's bend looks pronounced or asymmetric — noticeably more curve on one end than the other — send a photo and we'll take a look; a subtle, even bend is correct. The 12", 26", and 32" rails are straight — they're short enough that hull crown doesn't matter across their length.

The Highlander 100 special case
Only the 44" rail fits the Highlander 100, and it installs differently — via flush-mount inserts rather than the standard gear-track method used on rigid hulls. The 12", 26", and 32" rails fit the Outpost 100 but do not fit the Highlander 100.
Why: the Highlander 100's mounting points sit only at the forward gear-mount inserts and the rear — bolted to brass inserts near the flush-mount rod holders, factory-installed specifically for the 44" rail's rear point. There are no intermediate gear tracks like the Outpost 100 has, so the forward and rear points are too far apart for anything shorter than the 44" to bridge. The 44"'s built-in bend also does double duty here, letting it track the hull's rise from gunwale to deck-center without lifting off either mounting point.
Cross-shopping an Outpost 100 now and a Highlander later? If you want one rail guaranteed to work on both, buy the 44" — the shorter lengths won't transfer.
How the system slides and locks
Three layers, each with different rules:
- Bases → kayak: fixed once installed. Slide the bases onto the gear track T-bolt-style — insert through the open end of the track, slide to position, snug down — and they don't move along the deck again once bolted or clamped down.
- Rail → bases: adjustable any time. The rail runs through the open bases; loosen the bases, slide the rail to re-center it or shift an end forward/aft, then re-tighten. No re-drilling, no new hardware. You can even pull the rail out entirely, leave the bases as fixed points, and pop the rail back in later.
- Accessory mounts → rail: slide freely along the rail to wherever you want them, any time, without touching the bases at all.
Full install walkthrough:
- Decide your captain's bridge width — most owners go 26" or 32".
- Measure your cockpit's gear-track-to-gear-track distance; confirm your rail's mounting span (rail length + 2") fits.
- Slide the bases onto the gear track and snug down.
- Place the rail on top of the bases — it has a top side, so confirm orientation.
- Tighten the bases to lock the rail down.
- Add your accessory mounts wherever you want them.

Loading accessories onto the rail
There are two ways to get an accessory base onto the track, depending on the hardware:
- Top-loading at the key-slot cutouts (the fast method) — find the key-slot cutout on the track, drop the accessory's rail key in from the top, slide it to position, and tighten the locking screw. This is the standard method for most YakAttack, YakGear, Railblaza, Scotty, and RAM track bases, and it works across the Cajo lineup — Outpost, Terra, Highlander.
- T-bolt insertion at 45 degrees (for accessories without a rail key, or for adding a mount where there's no key slot nearby) — hold the T-bolt at a 45-degree angle to the track, insert the head into the channel, rotate to vertical so it locks under the track's lip, then slide to position and tighten. This works anywhere along the track, no key slot required.

Common gotcha: if an accessory "won't drop in," it's usually because there's no key-slot cutout right where the customer is trying to install — they're using the top-load method in a spot that needs the 45-degree T-bolt method instead.
Confirmed accessory brands
Too many to list exhaustively, but these are all confirmed compatible:

If you're eyeing a brand not on this list, ask and we'll check. What generally won't work: accessories built around a proprietary (non-standard) track profile — some Hobie-specific or other boat-specific bases fall into this category, built for their own brand's track rather than the general kayak rail-key standard.
Fitting non-Cajo hulls
Quad Rails aren't limited to Cajo hulls — here's what's confirmed and what isn't:
- Vibe Shearwater — confirmed, the cleanest non-Cajo fit. The Shearwater's deck layout and gear-track positioning are close enough to Cajo's rigid hulls that Quad Rails sit on the existing track without modification — same hardware, same install steps, no adapter or shim needed. All four lengths fit; measure your install width the same way (26" → 28" max outside-to-outside with bases at the ends). Other Cajo gear also fits the Shearwater: the Horizon Pro Seat, the Pro Seat Perch (with rails), and the Horizon Elevated Seat Perch (any Vibe with the Hero 2.0 seat platform) are all confirmed.
- Hobie Pro Angler 12 (PA12) — not yet tested by Cajo, but customers run them. 26" and 32" are the most common captain's-bridge lengths, and based on PA12 gunwale dimensions it should be doable — for a gunwale span of 22"–28" use the 26" rail (28" max install width), and for 28"–34" use the 32" (34" max install width). Since the PA12 has multiple model years with subtly different gunwale shapes, measure gunwale-to-gunwale at the bridge location and send a photo of the gunwale profile where the base would clamp, and Cajo will confirm the right length.
- Pelican 110 — unconfirmed. A customer has asked, but it hasn't been formally tested.
- Other gear-track kayaks — likely compatible if the gear-track spec matches. The install method is the same T-bolt-or-top-load approach either way; the only real variable is whether the rail length lines up with your cockpit geometry.
Once installed on any of these hulls, the rails accept the same accessory brands as on a Cajo — YakAttack, YakGear, Railblaza, Scotty, RAM.
Bases — included, not sold separately
The two bases per rail are included in the price — not an upsell. Every Quad Rail SKU (12", 26", 32", 44") ships with the rail, two bases, and mounting hardware, all bundled at one price.
