Horizon Perch: Highlander AirTrek fit

The Horizon Elevated Seat Perch is fully compatible with the Highlander AirTrek inflatables. The Horizon Pro Seat (the rigid-hull seat) isn't a bolt-in fit on the inflatables, but it can run on a Highlander by strapping its base to the deck D-rings.

The Horizon Elevated Seat Perch is fully compatible with the Highlander AirTrek inflatable series — the Highlander 100, 120, and 140T.

What you do (and don't) get from a Perch on an inflatable

The Perch raises your seating position the same way it does on a rigid hull — better casting angle, better visibility, easier sit-stand-sit transitions, more comfortable for sight-fishing skinny water.

What the Perch doesn't do on an inflatable: change the kayak's stability profile much. The AirTrek's drop-stitch floor is so wide and stiff that the higher CG from the Perch reads as a much smaller stability hit than it would on a narrower hull. It's still a higher seating position — just feels stable.

Running the Pro Seat on a Highlander

The Horizon Pro Seat (the rigid-hull seat) is designed around the mounting geometry of a rigid kayak deck, so it isn't a bolt-in fit on the Highlander's inflated floor. But you can still run it on a Highlander — secure the seat base to the deck D-rings with tie-down straps and you're good to go.

So the Highlander seat options are:

  • Highlander stock seat (in the box)
  • Horizon Elevated Seat Perch — the clean bolt-under-the-stock-seat upgrade for the seat-up-high feel
  • Horizon Pro Seat — works too, strapped to the deck D-rings (not a bolt-in fit like on the rigid hulls)

If you want the simplest height upgrade, the Perch is the move; if you already own a Pro Seat, strap it down and go.

Pedaling from the Perch on a Highlander

You can absolutely pedal the Traverse Drive from the Highlander while sitting on the Perch. Pro tip from us: pick up an extra Steering Handle Base and mount it to the gear track on the Perch. That way, when you're sitting up high, you can quickly move the steering handle closer to you. Trolling from the elevated position works great with this setup.

See the dedicated Perch + pedal article for the full walkthrough.
